POWERGRID’s Committee of Directors has approved investments in two key projects. The first involves a ₹209.68 Crore VOIP communication system for grid operations across India, expected to be commissioned by August 23, 2026. The second is a ₹495.83 crore project for disaster preparedness, including the procurement of emergency restoration systems, scheduled for completion by April 19, 2027.
Grid Communication System Upgrade
POWERGRID has approved the implementation of a VOIP communication system for grid operation across all five regions of India (NR, NER, SR, WR, ER). The project, estimated to cost ₹209.68 Crore, aims to enhance communication infrastructure and streamline grid operations. The project is scheduled to be commissioned within 18 months from the date of allocation, with an expected completion date of August 23, 2026.
Disaster Preparedness Enhancement
A significant investment has also been approved for enhancing disaster preparedness. This involves the procurement of 20 Sets (300 Towers) of Emergency Restoration System (ERS) under the Make in India initiative. The estimated cost for this project is ₹495.83 crore. This initiative aims to strengthen POWERGRID’s ability to respond effectively to disasters impacting transmission infrastructure. The project is scheduled to be commissioned by April 19, 2027.
