JSW Steel JSW and JFE Steel Officially Launch New Joint Venture Entity

JSW Steel and Japan’s JFE Steel Corporation have officially unveiled JSW JFE Steel Limited, their new 50:50 joint venture identity. Formerly known as JSW Sambalpur Steel Ltd, the entity marks the next phase of a 15-year strategic alliance. Combining JSW’s operational scale with JFE’s advanced technological prowess, the venture aims to strengthen sustainable steelmaking and industrial development in India from its strategically located integrated operations in Sambalpur, Odisha.

A New Chapter in Strategic Collaboration

On April 24, 2026, JSW Steel and JFE Steel Corporation held a landmark ceremony in Sambalpur, Odisha, to announce the rebranding of their joint venture as JSW JFE Steel Limited. This milestone celebrates the 15-year partnership between the two industrial giants, symbolizing a fusion of JSW’s expertise in operational excellence and project execution with JFE’s world-class technological capabilities.

Strategic Significance and Future Vision

The ceremony was attended by high-profile dignitaries including Odisha Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi and Union Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan. Leadership from both companies, including JSW Group Chairman Mr. Sajjan Jindal and JFE Holdings President & CEO Mr. Yoshihisa Kitano, emphasized the venture’s role in shaping the future of sustainable steelmaking in India. The plant’s strategic location provides critical proximity to iron ore mines, ensuring raw material security and long-term cost competitiveness.

Growth and Operational Capacity

The facility produces a diverse range of flat and long steel products, including hot-rolled and cold-rolled coils, serving vital sectors such as automotive, construction, and infrastructure. JSW Steel continues to lead the market with a current consolidated crude steel capacity of 35.9 MTPA, with expansion plans aimed at reaching 43.9 MTPA over the next three years. Meanwhile, JFE Steel remains a global leader, reporting consolidated crude steel output of 23.20 million tons for the fiscal year ended March 2025.
