GAIL (India) Limited has signed a strategic contract with TUSCO Limited to develop a 600 MW solar power project in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. Integrated with a 550 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), the project will power GAIL’s petrochemical facility in Pata and support the electrification of its gas-based infrastructure. This initiative marks a significant step in GAIL’s transition toward low-carbon, sustainable energy solutions and strengthens its industrial footprint in the state.
Advancing Sustainable Energy Infrastructure
On April 15, 2026, GAIL (India) Limited formalized its commitment to renewable energy by signing contract agreements for the setup of a 600 MW solar power project. The facility will be located at TUSCO’s dedicated Solar Park in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. This milestone was achieved through an agreement signed by GAIL and TUSCO leadership, highlighting a collaborative effort to integrate large-scale renewable capacity into GAIL’s energy portfolio.
Strategic Integration with BESS
A key feature of this initiative is the inclusion of a 550 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). By combining solar power generation with utility-scale storage, GAIL aims to ensure a stable and reliable energy supply for its Petrochemical Plant at Pata in the Auraiya district. Beyond captive consumption, the project is designed to facilitate the growing demand arising from the electrification of gas-based equipment and the establishment of new Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) plants throughout the region.
Future Outlook and Commitment
The project underscores GAIL’s broader corporate strategy to transition into low-carbon and sustainable energy solutions. Leadership noted that this development not only enhances the company’s green energy credentials but also serves as a catalyst for expanding GAIL’s business presence across Uttar Pradesh, aligning with national goals for energy self-sufficiency and industrial electrification.
