YES BANK has officially announced the appointment of Mr. Vinay Muralidhar Tonse as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective April 6, 2026. He succeeds Mr. Prashant Kumar, who demitted office on April 5, 2026, upon the completion of his tenure. Mr. Tonse brings extensive banking experience to the role, having previously served as the Managing Director of Retail Business and Operations at the State Bank of India.
Leadership Transition at the Bank
Following the completion of Mr. Prashant Kumar’s tenure on April 5, 2026, YES BANK has transitioned to new leadership. Mr. Vinay Muralidhar Tonse has assumed the position of Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer starting April 6, 2026. His appointment is set for a term extending to April 5, 2029, pending necessary shareholder approvals.
About the New MD & CEO
Mr. Vinay Muralidhar Tonse is a veteran banker with a career spanning several decades. Most recently, he served as the Managing Director (Retail Business and Operations) at the State Bank of India (SBI) until November 2025, where he oversaw a network of nearly 23,000 branches and managed business levels of Rs. 76 lac crore.
Extensive Banking Expertise
With a foundation in Corporate Credit, International Banking, and Treasury Operations, Mr. Tonse has held diverse leadership roles, including a tenure as the Managing Director and CEO of SBI Mutual Funds from June 2020 to December 2022. His professional journey includes significant international experience, such as serving as the CEO of the SBI Osaka Branch in Japan, and domestic leadership roles across various circles and corporate centers, reinforcing his extensive background in the financial services industry.
