Oil India Limited (OIL), a Maharatna PSU, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the CSIR – Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (IMMT). The partnership focuses on pursuing joint Research & Development (R&D) projects specifically in the field of critical minerals. IMMT has been designated as the Centre of Excellence for Critical Minerals under the National Critical Mineral Mission (NCMM). The agreement was signed on March 30, 2026, aiming to advance R&D activities outlined by the NCMM.
Strategic Alliance for Critical Minerals R&D
Oil India Limited (OIL), a prominent Maharatna Public Sector Undertaking, announced a significant strategic collaboration with the CSIR – Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (IMMT). IMMT’s Role and National Mission Alignment
The collaboration gains particular importance as CSIR-IMMT has been officially identified as the Centre of Excellence for Critical Minerals under the National Critical Mineral Mission (NCMM). The purpose of the agreement is to pave the way for OIL and IMMT to jointly undertake R&D activities directly related to the objectives outlined in the NCMM framework.
Execution of the Agreement
The MoU was officially executed by the Director (Exploration & Development) of OIL and the Director of CSIR-IMMT. The signing ceremony was held in the presence of the CMD, OIL, and was also attended by various Functional Directors from OIL and Senior Scientists from CSIR-IMMT, underscoring the high-level commitment to this new research focus.
