Cochin Shipyard: Signs MoUs for Shipbuilding & Infrastructure Expansion

Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) for strategic collaboration in shipbuilding. Additionally, CSL signed an MoU with Guidance, Tamil Nadu, to establish a state-of-the-art shipyard with approximately ₹15,000 crore investment, potentially creating nearly 10,000 jobs. The announcements were made on September 23, 2025.

Strategic Partnership with HD Korea

Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) is partnering with HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) to strengthen India’s shipbuilding capabilities. This collaboration aims to combine CSL’s infrastructure and domestic expertise with HD KSOE’s technology. The signing took place during the “Samudra se Samriddhi” event on September 20, 2025, in Bhavnagar, Gujarat.

Block Fabrication Facility

A dedicated Block Fabrication Facility (BFF) is planned at Kochi, spanning approximately 80 acres, with a capacity of 1,20,000 MT. The project involves an investment of about ₹3,700 crore and is expected to generate approximately 2,000 direct jobs.

Tamil Nadu Shipyard Project

CSL is also collaborating with Guidance, the nodal agency of the Government of Tamil Nadu, to establish a state-of-the-art shipyard. This greenfield investment of approximately ₹15,000 crore aims to create nearly 10,000 jobs, comprising 4,000 direct and 6,000 indirect opportunities. The new facility may also include a modern ship repair facility.
