Time Technoplast’s subsidiary, PowerBuild Batteries Private Limited, has successfully completed testing and received the Certificate of successful test completion from the Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) for its OPzS stationary batteries (Tubular Batteries in transparent SAN containers or TBS). This certification under standard IS 1651:2013 is vital for utility and EPC tenders, enhancing the company’s institutional procurement capabilities. The existing facilities are sufficient, with no additional capex required, positioning the product for improved EBITDA margins.
Key Certification Achieved for PowerBuild Batteries
We are pleased to announce that PowerBuild Batteries Private Limited, a subsidiary of Time Technoplast Limited, has secured the Certificate of successful test completion from the Central Power Research Institute (CPRI). This achievement validates the quality of its OPzS stationary batteries, also known as Tubular Batteries, housed in transparent SAN (Styrene Acrylonitrile) containers (TBS).
The certification specifically covers the 2V OPzS battery variants in capacities of 100Ah, 200Ah, and 300Ah, tested against the standard IS 1651:2013.
Product Significance and Market Impact
The OPzS / TBS batteries are 2V flooded lead-acid stationary batteries designed for long service life and reliable continuous float performance. Their transparent SAN containers allow for easy visual inspection, while the tubular plate design ensures durability. These attributes make them ideal for infrastructure-grade applications.
These batteries are now in high demand across the power utility sector, including generation facilities, thermal and nuclear plants, petrochemical complexes, and substations, where uninterrupted DC backup power and high reliability are critical.
Market Opportunity and Operational Benefit
Internal estimates suggest India’s power generation sector battery demand is approximately ₹3000 – ₹4000 crores, with the OPzS / TBS segment experiencing rapid traction driven by utility demand and replacement cycles. Following over six months of rigorous testing, PowerBuild is now among a select group of Indian manufacturers qualified to supply these utility-grade batteries.
Crucially, the existing plant and machinery are sufficient for manufacturing these batteries, meaning there will be no requirement for additional capex. Production using current facilities is expected to improve overall capacity utilisation and boost the overall EBITDA margins for the Company.
