Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) announced on March 05, 2026, that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited (KSSL). This strategic alliance is designed to reinforce India’s drive toward self-reliance in defence and maritime technology.
Focus Areas of Collaboration
The partnership will concentrate on the joint development and promotion of indigenous solutions tailored for advanced naval systems. Key areas of focus include:
- Advanced naval systems.
- Unmanned platforms, such as Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) and Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs).
- Other strategic maritime capabilities for both domestic and international markets.
The collaboration intends to cover a broad spectrum of systems, including ship propulsion, mechanical systems for naval and commercial vessels, integrated platform management systems, steering assemblies, and deck equipment.
Commitment to Atmanirbharta
This synergy is expected to leverage GRSE’s extensive expertise in shipbuilding and maritime engineering with KSSL’s leading capabilities as a defence OEM. The partnership is specifically intended to bolster the national vision of Atmanirbharta by fostering indigenisation, technological collaboration, and enhanced capabilities within the defence and maritime sectors.
The MoU signing ceremony included key leadership from both entities, such as Cdr Shantanu Bose (Director, Shipbuilding, GRSE) and Cmde Ajay Sharma (Vice President, Marine Systems, Bharat Forge Ltd.), highlighting the high-level commitment to this initiative.
