Shri Deepak Gupta (DIN 09503339) has formally assumed the role of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the Maharatna Public Sector Undertaking, with the appointment effective from March 1, 2026. This follows a prior communication made on February 12, 2026.

Shri Gupta is a Mechanical Engineer from the Delhi College of Engineering and commands over 35 years of diverse experience across the Oil & Gas value chain. His expertise spans technical leadership, strategic planning, Project & Construction Management, and Global Procurement.
Leadership at GAIL
Mr. Gupta originally joined GAIL as Director (Projects) in February 2022. In this capacity, he has been central to executing several High Impact Initiatives, including: the expansion of Natural Gas & LPG Pipelines, the development of Gas Processing Units, deployment of Critical SCADA infrastructure, and driving Green Energy initiatives aimed at achieving Net-Zero goals. He currently oversees the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) of GAIL’s vast network, which includes more than 20,000 km of pipelines, compressor stations, and process plants. Notably, under his leadership, GAIL completed the Dabhol Breakwater Project for Konkan LNG Limited.
Board and External Experience
Beyond his core role, Shri Gupta serves on the boards of several vital GAIL JVs, including being Chairman of Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited and Green Gas Limited, and Chairman of Talcher Fertilizers Ltd., India’s maiden Coal Gasification based Fertilizer Complex. He also holds Director positions at ONGC Petro-additions Limited (OPaL) and South-East Asia Gas Pipeline Company Limited (SEAGP).
Previous Career Highlights
Prior to joining GAIL, Mr. Gupta spent 32 years at Engineers India Limited, where he led cross-functional teams executing complex projects globally. Key achievements include leading the construction of the world’s largest single-train Dangote Refinery & Petrochemical Complex in Nigeria, HMEL’s Mega Petrochemical Complex at Bhatinda, and leading the first greenfield refinery project in Mongolia.
