NTPC Limited and Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation Limited (GMDC) have formalized a strategic partnership by signing two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on 26th February 2026. This alliance is centered on the mutual utilization of coal and lignite resources held by GMDC.

Details of the Two MoUs

The two agreements outline distinct areas of cooperation:

  • The first MoU establishes a partnership for utilizing coal sourced from GMDC’s designated coal blocks. This supply will cater to power generation needs at both NTPC’s existing and upcoming power stations.
  • The second MoU focuses on future-forward initiatives, aiming to explore the feasibility of coal and lignite gasification. This includes assessing its downstream commercialization, the execution of pilot projects, and the utilization of the resulting syngas.
