NTPC Limited Completion of Acquisition of Sinnar Thermal Power Limited with MAHAGENCO

NTPC Limited, alongside its consortium partner Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited (MAHAGENCO), has successfully finalized the acquisition of Sinnar Thermal Power Limited (STPL) on February 24, 2026. STPL, which was under the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP), operates a 1350 MW coal-based thermal power plant in Sinnar, Nashik. This transaction increases the total installed capacity of the NTPC group to 88,132 MW.

Acquisition Finalized on February 24, 2026

NTPC Limited officially confirms the completion of the acquisition of Sinnar Thermal Power Limited (“STPL”). This acquisition was executed by a consortium comprising NTPC Limited and Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited (MAHAGENCO). The final completion date for the transaction was February 24, 2026.

STPL was undergoing the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code 2016. The acquisition was executed following the approval of the Resolution Plan by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).

Details of the Acquired Asset

The acquired entity, STPL, owns and operates a significant coal-based thermal power facility located in Sinnar, Nashik, Maharashtra. The installed capacity of this power plant is rated at 5X270 MW, totaling 1350 MW.

Impact on NTPC Group Capacity

With the successful closure of this transaction, the overall energy generation profile of the NTPC group has substantially increased. The total installed capacity of the NTPC group now stands at 88,132 MW. Furthermore, the group’s total commercial capacity has reached 87,052 MW following the induction of STPL’s assets.
