Major Data Platform Modernization for CSX
Infosys, in collaboration with Microsoft, has successfully completed a major data modernization program for CSX Corporation, a leading rail-based freight transportation company. Announced on February 24, 2026, this transformation is described as one of the largest deployments of its kind in the transportation and logistics sector.
The core of the initiative involved using Infosys Topaz™, an AI-first set of services, along with Microsoft Fabric and Microsoft Purview, to create a unified, cloud-native data platform. This effort aimed to replace legacy systems, improve decision-making, accelerate reporting, and reduce operational costs.
Key Achievements and Impact
The program achieved substantial modernization milestones, including:
- Consolidating CSX’s fragmented data landscape into a single, governed data environment.
- Achieving automated metadata governance across 28 domains.
- Creating over 170 data products for adoption using AI accelerators and self-serve analytics.
John Maio, AVP, Enterprise Data & Analytics at CSX Corporation, highlighted the impact: “By modernizing our reporting and analytics platform with Microsoft Fabric, we’ve consolidated over 50,000 legacy reports into just 1,200 actionable insights.” He noted that the transformation saved thousands of hours through automation and laid the groundwork for predictive maintenance and logistics optimization.
