Patel Engineering Limited (‘PEL’ or ‘Company’) has achieved a significant milestone by being declared the Lowest Bidder (L1) for the Renukaji Dam Project (Package-1). The contract was awarded by the Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL). The total value of this civil contract amounts to Rs. 910.08 Crore, inclusive of Goods and Services Tax (GST).
Project Scope and Execution Details
The project is a critical initiative aimed at enhancing water storage capacity and supporting hydropower generation in Himachal Pradesh. The scope of work awarded to PEL includes:
- Construction of three diversion tunnels, each with a diameter of 9.5 meters and varying lengths of 1379 meters, 1468 meters, and 1590 meters.
- Development of three inlet and outlet portals for these tunnels.
- Construction of approximately 6 kilometers of access roads.
- Installation of hydro-mechanical gates and execution of necessary instrumentation works.
The project location is specified as Village Dadahu, Tehsil Renuka, District Sirmaur, Himachal Pradesh. The required timeline for the execution of this domestic civil contract is set at 30 months from the date of award, which occurred on February 23, 2026.
Company Position and Outlook
Ms. Kavita Shirvaikar, Managing Director of Patel Engineering, commented that securing the L1 bid reaffirms the company’s strong capabilities in delivering large-scale infrastructure. PEL, established in 1949, maintains a strong track record in hydropower and tunnelling segments, having completed over 85 dams and 40 hydroelectric projects previously. The company confirmed that this transaction is not a related party transaction, and its promoters hold no interest in HPPCL.
