Introduction of New Insecticide TAKAI
Godrej Agrovet Limited (GAVL) has officially launched a new, innovative insecticide named “TAKAI”, targeted exclusively for rice cultivation. The launch date for this product was February 7, 2026.
TAKAI is powered by the proprietary Cyclapryn™ technology, developed through a collaboration with ISK Japan. This formulation is effective against major rice pests, including the Stem Borer and the Leaf Folder.
Product Efficacy and Application
The announcement highlights that severe outbreaks of Stem Borer can cause 30% – 40% yield loss in rice, while Leaf Folder infestation can lead to 20% – 30% loss.
TAKAI is recommended for application at a dose of 160 ml during two critical growth stages of the rice crop:
- 15-30 Days After Transplant (DAT)
- 40-60 DAT
This dual application is designed to provide an extensive protection window throughout the growth cycle. N.K. Rajavelu, CEO – Crop Protection Business, noted that pre-launch surveys indicated 77% of farmers value quick pest control and long-lasting effects, which TAKAI aims to deliver.
Market Strategy and Future Prospects
The product initially caters to the Domestic (Indian Market), where rice yield currently averages around ~2.9 tonnes/hectare, significantly lower than the global best of 5 tonnes/hectare.
GAVL is currently in the process of securing label approvals for TAKAI to be used on other crops, including Maize, Chilli, Cabbage, Soybean, Chickpea, and Sugarcane. This is part of the company’s strategy to strengthen its portfolio across key agricultural segments.
Sunil Kataria, MD & CEO of Godrej Agrovet, stated that the launch aligns with the company’s endeavor to provide crop protection solutions that address environmental and market challenges faced by Indian farmers.
