Praj Industries has successfully demonstrated its integrated Ethanol-to-Jet (EtJ) process, utilizing Axens Jetanol™ technology, for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). The announcement, made at Wings India 2026, highlights the readiness for SAF scale-up. This advancement enables the conversion of ethanol into drop-in SAF, marking a significant milestone in transitioning to low-carbon aviation fuels. Praj is now positioned to support the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel and the decarbonization of the aviation sector.
Ethanol-to-Jet Technology Demonstrated
Praj Industries has achieved a technological breakthrough in sustainable aviation fuel production, demonstrating its integrated Ethanol-to-Jet (EtJ) process using Axens Jetanol™ technology. This achievement was announced on January 29, 2026, at Wings India 2026, emphasizing the global readiness for SAF scale-up.
Key Details of the Technology
The EtJ process utilizes Axens Jetanol™ technology at Praj’s fully Integrated Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) demonstration plant, Praj Matrix. The technology converts ethanol into drop-in Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) compliant with ASTM D7566. This fuel is compatible with existing aircraft engines and aviation infrastructure.
Statements from Leadership
Dr. Pramod Chaudhari, Founder Chairman of Praj Industries, stated the company’s commitment to science-led solutions that support decarbonizing the aviation sector and enhancing energy security. He noted that Praj’s solutions are now proven across both Alcohol-to-Jet and Ethanol-to-Jet pathways.
Quentin Debuisschert, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Axens, highlighted that the successful demonstration of the Ethanol-to-Jet pathway represents a significant milestone for the SAF value chain. The collaboration between Praj and Axens accelerates the deployment of reliable and scalable ETJ solutions.
Industry Impact and Future Outlook
According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), global SAF demand will exceed 500 million tonnes. SAF is crucial for achieving civil aviation’s long-term decarbonization strategy and meeting global emissions reduction goals.
Memorandum of Understanding
Praj Industries, IATA, and the Indian Sugar & Bio-Energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to drive SAF certification and adoption in India, focusing on a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of SAF derived from sugarcane feedstock via the Ethanol-to-Jet pathway.
