KPI Green Energy Commences Power Supply from 200 MW Solar Project

KPI Green Energy Limited has begun supplying power from its 200 MW AC / 240 MW DC grid-connected solar power project, awarded by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL). The project operates under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement and is part of Gujarat’s renewable energy expansion. Initial power injection into the state grid has started.

Power Generation Begins

KPI Green Energy Limited announced the commencement of power generation and supply from its 200 MW AC / 240 MW DC grid-connected solar power project. This project was awarded by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL).

Project Details and Impact

The project operates under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). It is designed to expand Gujarat’s renewable energy capacity and improve grid reliability. The project has successfully synchronized with the grid, and initial power injection into the state grid has commenced.

The project is expected to contribute to the Company’s revenues, supported by a long-term contracted tariff under the PPA. This is one of the first solar power projects commissioned in the 1.8 GW GSECL Solar Park (South Block), Khavda.

Strategic Focus

This milestone reinforces KPI Green Energy Limited’s focus on scaling its Independent Power Producer (IPP) portfolio and expanding its presence in utility-scale solar and hybrid power projects. This supports state utilities in meeting their renewable purchase obligations.

Khavda’s Advantages for Solar Power

Khavda offers over 300 sunny days a year and a solar irradiation rate of 2,060 kWh/m², ensuring efficient utilization of solar panels.

The region’s flat terrain is suitable for large-scale solar installations. Khavda’s proximity to Gujarat’s energy grid ensures transmission of clean energy.

Technology and Innovation

The project uses an IoT-powered robotic cleaning system ensuring approximately 98% cleaning efficiency.

A Network Operations Center (NOC) provides real-time monitoring. Advanced digital technology in the form of SCADA is used for data collection and synchronisation.

Corrosion and Cable Protection

Higher corrosion coating is applied to major equipment. Cable laying has been optimized with increased protective sand layering.

Khavda Project Statistics

  • Approximately 47.3 Cr kWh estimated annual generation
  • Approximately 1.3 lakh houses electrified by green energy
  • Approximately 1,000 green jobs created
  • Approximately 3.4 lakh metric tonnes of CO2 saved annually
  • Approximately 3.6 lakh equivalent trees planted every year
