Engineers India Limited (EIL) will expand Africa’s Biggest Dangote Refinery. Dangote plans to increase its refining capacity from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day. EIL has signed a contract agreement with a value of more than US $ 350 Million to serve as Project Management Consultant (PMC) and EPCM Consultant for this project.
Dangote Refinery Expansion
Engineers India Limited (EIL) has partnered with the Dangote Group to expand the Dangote Refinery, already recognized as Africa’s largest. The expansion will significantly increase the refinery’s capacity and enhance its production capabilities.
Increased Refining Capacity
The expansion aims to elevate the refining capacity from 650,000 barrels per day to an impressive 1.4 million barrels per day. This substantial increase will be achieved through the addition of Train 2, which will produce Euro VI grade fuels. In addition to boosting fuel production, the project will also expand Polypropylene production from 830 kTPA to 2.4 MMTPA. This will be accomplished by revamping the existing Polypropylene Unit (PPU) and installing an additional PPU with a capacity of 1.2 MMTPA. A world-scale 750 kTPA UOP’s Oleflex Unit will also be added to supplement Propylene feed to PPU.
EIL’s Role and Contract Details
Dangote Group has entrusted EIL with this project, signing a contract agreement valued at over US $ 350 Million. EIL will act as both the Project Management Consultant (PMC) and EPCM Consultant, leveraging its expertise to ensure the successful execution of this expansion. Once complete, this expansion will solidify Dangote as the world’s largest petroleum refinery, strengthening fuel production in Africa and enhancing regional energy security.
Significance of the Expansion
The expansion of the Dangote Refinery represents a major step forward for Africa’s energy sector. By reducing reliance on imports and supporting regional energy security, this project will have far-reaching benefits for the continent. This project to 1.4 million barrels per day is a project of global significance and will stand among the largest refinery complexes at a single location.
