PTC Industries announces the successful installation of its Plasma Arc Melting (PAM) furnace at Aerolloy Technologies, its wholly-owned subsidiary in Lucknow. The PAM furnace has a capacity of approximately 600 tonnes per annum for titanium alloy ingot production. The installation enhances Aerolloy’s flexibility and cost efficiency, enabling rapid remelting and reuse of internally generated materials, reducing dependence on raw materials.

Aerolloy Technologies Limited, a subsidiary of PTC Industries Limited, has completed the installation of its Plasma Arc Melting (PAM) furnace at its Strategic Manufacturing Technology Centre (SMTC) in Lucknow. This expansion aims to boost the company’s operational capabilities and production capacity.
Furnace Capabilities and Capacity
The newly installed PAM furnace has a production capacity of approximately 600 tonnes per annum and is focused on manufacturing titanium alloy ingots. Electrical, mechanical, and control panel installations are complete, and the furnace is ready for trials and commissioning.
Strategic Benefits of Plasma Arc Melting
Plasma Arc Melting allows for the production of high-quality Titanium and specialty alloys under a controlled atmosphere. This method ensures metallurgical cleanliness and chemistry control crucial for aerospace and defence applications. The process also allows for efficient remelting and recycling of internal metallic scrap and returns, and offers the flexibility to produce specialized titanium alloys in smaller batches.
Operational Advantages
The PAM furnace enhances Aerolloy’s operational flexibility and cost efficiency by allowing rapid remelting and reuse of internally generated material returns, improving material yield, and reducing dependence on fresh raw material inputs.
Impact on Manufacturing
This PAM facility will enable Aerolloy to develop and manufacture customized Titanium alloys supporting advanced aerospace, defense, and space programs. Combined with existing Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR) and Vacuum Induction Melting (VIM) infrastructure, the PAM furnace strengthens PTC and Aerolloy’s position as a major integrated Titanium and Superalloy manufacturing platform.
Long-Term Strategy
The installation aligns with PTC’s strategy to build an integrated ecosystem for advanced materials within India. This supports import substitution and export-oriented growth in high-value aerospace and defence materials.
Strategic Materials Technology Complex (SMTC)
PTC is expanding its capabilities through a multi-million-dollar investment in its Strategic Materials Technology Complex (SMTC) at the Lucknow node of the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor. This facility is being developed as a vertically integrated ecosystem. It encompasses aerospace-grade titanium and superalloy melting and mill operations, producing various forms, including ingots, billets, bars, plates, and sheets, alongside precision casting and downstream manufacturing capabilities.
