IndiGo Welcomes India’s First Airbus A321XLR, Expanding International Reach

IndiGo becomes the first Indian airline to induct the Airbus A321XLR, arriving in Delhi on January 7, 2026. This long-range aircraft will initially service routes from Mumbai and Delhi to Athens, starting January 23 & 24, 2026, respectively, operating thrice weekly. Featuring 12 IndiGoStretch and 183 economy seats, this addition marks a significant step in IndiGo’s international expansion plans, enhancing global connectivity.

A New Era for IndiGo

IndiGo has achieved a key milestone by welcoming the first Airbus A321XLR into its fleet. This addition strengthens IndiGo’s ability to serve long international routes while maintaining cost efficiency.

Initial Routes and Aircraft Configuration

The Airbus A321XLR will initially be deployed on routes connecting Mumbai and Delhi to Athens, Greece. The Mumbai route will commence on January 23, 2026, and the Delhi route on January 24, 2026, with both operating thrice weekly. The aircraft offers a dual-class configuration with 12 IndiGoStretch and 183 economy class seats. RECARO seating enhances passenger comfort on these long-distance flights.

Expansion Plans and Future Routes

IndiGo has a firm order for 40 A321XLR aircraft, with nine expected for delivery in 2026. Following the Athens launch, subsequent aircraft will serve existing routes like Istanbul, Turkey, and Denpasar, Bali. New long-haul routes in Europe and East Asia will also be introduced with further deliveries.

Enhanced Inflight Experience

IndiGo’s A321XLR aircraft features 12 IndiGoStretch seats with a 44-inch seat pitch and 6-inch recline. The Economy Class offers 183 seats with a 31-inch seat pitch and 5-inch recline. The aircraft is equipped with advanced RECARO seating, offering ergonomic comfort. Bluebox has partnered with IndiGo to offer a next-generation digital inflight experience, including movies, TV shows, games and animated series.

Onboard Services

Complimentary hot meals and beverages inspired by local and global flavors will be served. The default meals will be vegetarian, with non-vegetarian options available for pre-booking. Alcoholic beverages can be purchased or pre-booked and will be complimentary for IndiGoStretch customers.
