The order involves converting 40 tonnes of Grade 1 Titanium sponge into Ti-6Al-4V Titanium alloy ingots, adhering to stringent quality standards for space and aerospace applications, strengthening India’s indigenous capabilities.

PTC Industries Limited, a manufacturer of strategic materials and precision components, announced it has received an order from the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), a key centre of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The announcement was made on January 07, 2026.
Details of the Order
The order requires the conversion of 40 tonnes of Grade 1 Titanium sponge into Ti-6Al-4V Titanium alloy ingots. The production will utilize a Double Vacuum Arc Remelting (Double VAR) process. The ingots will meet stringent quality and purity standards for space and aerospace applications.
Significance of Vacuum Arc Remelting
Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR) is critical for producing aerospace-grade Titanium alloys. This process ensures chemistry, solidification, and cleanliness. It eliminates inclusions and dissolved gases which is important for mechanical performance in mission-critical applications. Double VAR melting results in high chemical homogeneity, metallurgical cleanliness, and enhanced fatigue strength.
