Powergrid Successful Bidder for Battery Storage Project in Andhra Pradesh

Powergrid has been declared a successful bidder for a battery energy storage project in Andhra Pradesh. The project involves setting up a cumulative capacity of 2,000 MWh. The Letter of Award was received on December 29, 2025. The project will be located in Chittoor District and have a capacity of 150 MW/300 MWh at 400/220kV SS Kalikiri.

Powergrid Secures Battery Storage Project

Powergrid has been declared a successful bidder for establishing a Battery Energy Storage System project. The announcement, dated December 30, 2025, confirms that Powergrid will develop the project under a tariff-based competitive bidding process.

Project Details

The project aims to set up a cumulative capacity of 2,000 MWh (1,000 MW x 2 hrs.) Standalone Battery Energy Storage System in the Selected Sub-Stations of APTRANSCO, Andhra Pradesh. This initiative supports ‘on Demand’ usage. The project will be developed under a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) Model. The project’s location is 400/220kV SS Kalikiri in Chittoor District, Andhra Pradesh with a Capacity of 150 MW/300MWh.

Powergrid received the Letter of Award (LoA) for the battery storage project on December 29th, 2025.
