Ola Electric Receives Government Certification for 4680 Bharat Cell Powered Roadster X+ Motorcycle

Ola Electric has received government certification for its 4680 Bharat Cell powered Roadster X+ motorcycle. This makes it the first electric motorcycle in India with a completely in-house developed battery pack to receive such certification. The Roadster X+ boasts an industry-leading range of up to 500 km and extends the company’s 4680 Bharat Cell platform.

Government Certification Achieved

Ola Electric announced that its flagship electric motorcycle, the Roadster X+ (9.1 kWh), has been approved under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR), 1989. The approval was granted by the International Centre for Automotive Technology (iCAT), Manesar. Deliveries of the Roadster X+ (9.1kWh) will now commence. This marks a significant milestone as it is the first electric motorcycle in India to be certified with a completely in-house developed 4680 Bharat Cell battery pack.

Industry-Leading Range

The Roadster X+ 9.1kWh sets a new benchmark in electric motorcycling with a range of up to 500 km. This is enabled by the high energy density and advanced thermal performance of Ola’s homegrown 4680 Bharat Cell technology, facilitating long-distance and inter-city riding.

Extending the 4680 Bharat Cell Platform

With this certification, Ola Electric has extended the use of its in-house developed 4680 Bharat Cell technology across its two-wheeler portfolio, including both electric scooters and motorcycles. The same 4680 Bharat Cell platform will also underpin Ola शक्ति, reinforcing the company’s vertically integrated approach across cells, battery packs, and vehicle platforms.

Stringent Testing and Compliance

The certification was issued following rigorous vehicle-level safety, electrical, performance, and environmental testing. These tests were notified by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH). The validation program included tests such as constructional and functional safety, range, gradeability, noise, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and braking performance.

In addition to the vehicle-level certification, the 9.1 kWh battery pack has also received ARAI certification under AIS-156 Amendment 4. The battery pack cleared stringent safety and durability tests including water immersion, thermal runaway and fire safety.
