The order acknowledges that ₹160.28 crore had already been paid and appropriates it to the government. The remaining tax demand of ₹1.23 crore has been dropped, and no penalty has been imposed.
GST Demand Update
Tata Steel received a Show Cause cum demand Notice dated June 17, 2025, related to the erstwhile Tata Steel Long Products Limited (TSLP). TSLP was amalgamated into Tata Steel effective November 15, 2023.

The Joint Commissioner of CGST & Central Excise passed a favorable order on December 17, 2025. The key outcomes are as follows:
The authority acknowledged that the company had already paid ₹160,28,29,018/- against the demand and has appropriated the same to the Government.
The remaining demand of ₹1,23,22,617/- has been dropped.
No penalty has been imposed on the Company.
Financial Impact
The aggregate tax demand of ₹161,51,51,635/- (₹160,28,29,018/- + ₹1,23,22,617/-) has been set aside by the Authority.
