Bharti Airtel has extended its mobile network to Man & Merak, remote villages near Pangong Lake in Ladakh. Airtel is the only provider offering mobile connectivity in the region. This deployment connects the entire route between Chushul and Pangong Tso, boosting tourism and providing access to digital services for residents and security forces. Approximately 50 km of previously unconnected area is now covered.
Connectivity for Remote Villages
Bharti Airtel has expanded its network to Man & Merak, two of the remotest villages located near Pangong Lake. With this deployment, Airtel is the only service provider to bring mobile connectivity to this strategically significant region.
Ending Isolation
Located along the stretch between Man and Merak villages, this area has struggled with zero connectivity, leaving a vast corridor of approximately 50 km without coverage. This high-speed network rollout marks a transformative moment, enabling residents, security forces, and tourists to stay connected.
Boosting Tourism
With this deployment, the entire route between Chushul and Pangong Tso is now connected, significantly boosting the tourism potential of this area.
Airtel’s Commitment
According to Dibyendu Aich, COO – Jammu and Kashmir, Bharti Airtel, connecting Man and Merak is a step forward in extending digital access to India’s remotest regions. These sites will support tourists visiting Pangong Lake and empower local communities with digital services, emergency connectivity, and access to everyday digital tools.
Airtel’s expansion in high-altitude regions reflects its commitment to bridging the connectivity divide, strengthening digital infrastructure, and offering reliable mobile services.
