SJVN Unit-1 of Buxar Thermal Power Project Achieves Commercial Operation

Located in Chausa, District Buxar, Bihar, the project is expected to generate 9,828.72 Million Units of electricity annually, with 85% allocated to Bihar.

SJVN Thermal Private Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SJVN, has successfully achieved the Commercial Operation Date (COD) of Unit-1 (660 MW) of the 1320 MW (2X660 MW) Buxar Thermal Power Project, effective November 14, 2025. This achievement marks a pivotal moment for SJVN, significantly contributing to India’s power generation capabilities.

Project Details and Impact

The Buxar Thermal Power Project, situated in Chausa, District Buxar, Bihar, features state-of-the-art supercritical technology, ensuring high efficiency and reduced environmental impact. The project is designed to generate 9,828.72 Million Units of electricity annually. A substantial portion, 85% of the generated power, has been allocated to Bihar under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement, enhancing power availability in the region and promoting energy security.
