Alkem Foundation, the CSR arm of Alkem Laboratories, has partnered with IIT Bombay to establish a cutting-edge research center dedicated to immuno-therapeutics and regenerative medicines. The Alkem Centre for Advanced Research and Development of Applied Immuno-Therapeutics and Regenerative Medicines aims to foster innovation in complex disease areas. Alkem Foundation will contribute a substantial 20-25% of its cumulative CSR obligations over seven years to this research center.

Strategic Research Initiative

Alkem Foundation and IIT Bombay have announced a collaboration to establish a first-of-its-kind research center in India. The focus will be on immuno-therapeutics and regenerative medicines, addressing significant unmet medical needs.

Alkem Centre for Advanced Research

The Alkem Foundation will provide funding for the establishment of the Alkem Centre for Advanced Research and Development of Applied Immuno-Therapeutics and Regenerative Medicines on the IIT Bombay campus.

This initiative marks the first industry-academia collaboration of its kind in the country, driven through the CSR route, to advance research in the field of immuno-therapeutics and regenerative medicines. Alkem’s pharmaceutical industry expertise will be combined with IIT Bombay’s proficiency in biomedical engineering, biosciences, and translational research.

Research Focus and Ecosystem

The research center aims to create an ecosystem that fosters innovation, research, and skill development, while bridging critical gaps in infrastructure, talent, and translational capability, particularly in the realm of high-precision medicines.

The initiative intends to strengthen India’s translational research ecosystem in life sciences and will draw upon IIT Bombay’s core faculty, along with mentors from both IIT Bombay and Alkem. Global experts from premier universities will also advise on the research programs.

Leadership Perspective

Mrs. Madhurima Singh, Executive Director and Chairperson of the CSR and Sustainability Committee at Alkem stated, “At Alkem, we understand the critical role of scientific advancement and transformative research in addressing unmet medical needs…We are pleased to partner with IIT Bombay to develop advanced and cost-effective treatments that can improve both lifespan and quality of life.”

Prof. Shireesh B. Kedare, Director, IIT Bombay, said, “We are delighted to partner with Alkem Foundation in this transformative initiative…This collaboration will foster clinical breakthroughs that lead to affordable therapies, reduce dependence on imports, and take us a step further in India’s journey toward self-reliance in healthcare innovation.”
