Landing Platform Docks Agreement

Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd. (MDL) and Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited (SDHI) have entered into an exclusive Teaming Agreement (TA) during India Maritime Week 2025 (IMW 2025) held in Mumbai. The TA focuses on collaboration in the design and construction of Landing Platform Docks (LPDs) for the Indian Navy.

Partnership Details

The agreement combines MDL’s experience in ship design and project management with SDHI’s shipbuilding infrastructure. Swan Defence is India’s largest shipbuilding and heavy fabrication company. The partnership aims to leverage the strengths of both shipyards to deliver optimal solutions for the Indian Navy.

Strategic Significance

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) recently approved the acquisition of LPDs to enhance the Indian Navy’s capabilities. These additions are considered critical for power projection, amphibious operations, and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) missions.

Public-Private Partnership

This collaboration represents a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) approach. The goal is to leverage private sector efficiency and cost-effectiveness with the proven capabilities of a public sector enterprise. This aims to reduce construction time, enhance quality, and achieve cost efficiency in building complex platforms.
