Key Business Drivers and Commentary

The company attributed the revenue growth to its diversified portfolio and strategic initiatives. However, the decline in profitability was largely due to margin pressures in the Fertiliser business. This was exacerbated by increased raw material costs, stemming from the ongoing Middle East crisis, which were not fully compensated by subsidies. Mr. S. Sankarasubramanian, Managing Director & CEO, commented on the resilient performance amidst a challenging environment, highlighting the company’s focus on differentiated offerings and the launch of ten new products in the Nutrients and Crop Protection segments.

Strategic Initiatives Update

Coromandel’s long-term strategic initiatives are progressing as planned. The new NPK fertiliser capacity is on track for completion by Q4 FY27. In Crop Protection, additional capacity for a key molecule is expected by Q3. The Company is also establishing a launch plant for fluoro intermediates to support R&D commercialization and enhance specialty chemistry capabilities. The Retail business expanded its network with close to 100 new stores during the quarter, bringing the total to over 1300 stores.

Business Segment Performance

The Fertiliser business faced headwinds from deficit rainfall and elevated raw material prices, impacting offtake and margins. Despite this, the company supplied approximately 3.3 million tons of fertilisers in H1, strengthening its leadership in the phosphatic segment with a market share increase to 19%. The newly commissioned Phosphoric acid and sulphuric acid plant at Kakinada is helping mitigate supply disruptions. The Crop Protection business recorded a 22% revenue growth, driven by strong export performance and a focus on differentiated products in the domestic market. The Retail business widened its reach, with its speciality nutrients, organic, and biological segments showing strong performance due to increasing farmer adoption of sustainable solutions.
