Vedanta Limited clarifies immaterial land dispute impacting less than 1% of holdings

Vedanta Limited has issued a clarification regarding a news item about the cancellation of 28.8 acres of land in Odisha. The company stated that these land parcels constitute less than 1% of its total land holdings for aluminium operations at Jharsuguda and are part of the undertaking transferred to Vedanta Aluminium Metal Limited (VAML). Vedanta considers the matter not to be material to its operations.

Vedanta Limited Addresses Land Clarification

Vedanta Limited has responded to a news item published on “www.business-standard.com” on November 02, 2026, which reported that Odisha has cancelled 28.8 acres of land allotted to the company over non-utilisation. The announcement, dated November 03, 2026, clarifies the company’s position on the matter.

Details of the Land Parcels

In its clarification, Vedanta Limited noted that the subject land comprises non-contiguous parcels representing less than 1% of the total land holding associated with its aluminium operations at Jharsuguda. Following a demerger, these land parcels are now part of the aluminium undertaking transferred to Vedanta Aluminium Metal Limited (VAML). However, the leasehold rights currently remain in the name of Vedanta Limited (VEDL) pending the completion of formalities for transfer and endorsement of the underlying lease deeds in favour of VAML.

Company’s Stance on Utilisation

The company acknowledged that there have been exchanges of correspondence with IDCO regarding the alleged non-utilisation of the subject land. Vedanta Limited has responded to these concerns from time to time and is taking appropriate steps concerning the resumption or re-allotment of the land. Considering the limited extent of the land involved and the fact that the matter has no impact on the company’s ongoing operations, Vedanta deems the matter to be not material.

Commitment to Compliance

Vedanta Limited reiterated its commitment to complying with SEBI Listing Regulations. The company will continue to keep the stock exchanges duly informed of all material information and events, including price-sensitive information, in accordance with applicable provisions.
