Ambuja Cements Limited has announced plans to add approximately 30 MTPA of cement capacity, reaching a total of 155 MTPA by FY’30. The company expects to commission new capacities in phases, with a significant portion expected by March 2027.

Ambuja Cements Outlines Major Capacity Expansion

Ambuja Cements Limited, part of the Adani Portfolio, has firmed up its next phase of expansion, planning to add approximately 30 MTPA of cement capacity. This initiative, supported by a growth capex program of around ₹14,500 crore, aims to boost its total capacity to 155 MTPA by FY’30. The expansion will focus on strengthening its manufacturing network across the high-growth markets in East, West, and North India.

Key Expansion Details and Timeline

The expansion includes new grinding capacities of 15.5 MTPA in the West Cluster, 11.6 MTPA in the East Cluster, and 2.9 MTPA in the North Cluster. Specific additions are planned in Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh. The programme also incorporates new clinker capacity at Umrangso in Assam, and Maratha and Mundra in the West cluster. The company has already commissioned 4.6 MTPA in H1 FY’27 and expects another 5.6 MTPA to be commissioned or ramped up by H2 FY’27, bringing total capacity to 119 MTPA by March 2027.

Strategic Growth and Cost Efficiency

Mr. Vinod Bahety, CEO – Cement Business, Adani Group, highlighted that the expansion is focused on quality growth and creating a more balanced manufacturing network. By strengthening the link between clinker and grinding capacity and expanding closer to key markets, the company aims for greater flexibility, improved logistics, and cost efficiencies. This strategic growth is expected to achieve a cost of approximately ₹4,000 PMT by FY’28.

Recent Capacity Additions

The new programme builds on capacity expansion already underway. During H1 FY27, Ambuja added 4.6 MTPA through various brownfield expansions and new units, bringing its total cement capacity to 113.5 MTPA. The near-term pipeline includes an additional 3.2 MTPA expected to be stabilised and ramped up in H2 FY’27, and the Warisaliganj GU (2.4 MTPA) in Bihar, also expected in H2 FY’27. The company’s total capacity is projected to reach 119 MTPA by the end of March 2027.

Post-Acquisition Growth

Since its acquisition, Ambuja has completed 11 capacity projects, adding 16.3 MTPA of cement capacity and 9.0 MTPA of clinker capacity by September 30, 2026. The latest 30 MTPA expansion program further enhances its pan-India manufacturing network, comprising 25 Integrated Units (IU), 37 Grinding Units (GU), and 3 Clinker Units (CU).
