High Court Declines Jurisdiction in TCML Dispute
Tata Chemicals Limited has provided an update concerning a notice issued to its Kenyan subsidiary, Tata Chemicals Magadi Limited (TCML), by the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, Kenya. Following up on previous disclosures, the company has received a significant ruling from the High Court of Kenya. On October 23, 2026, the Honourable Court issued an order stating that it does not have jurisdiction over the dispute and cannot proceed further with the case.
TCML to Assess Legal Options
In response to the High Court’s decision, TCML is currently examining the order in detail. The company is expected to take legal and all other necessary steps to chart a path forward concerning this matter. Further updates will be provided as and when the company determines the appropriate course of action.
Technical Review Underway
Separately, it has been noted that a Committee, led by the Principal Secretary for Mining and including the Chief Executive Officer of TCML, is conducting a detailed technical review of all related matters. This review aims to submit a report to the Cabinet Secretary. The objective is to establish a sustainable framework that will promote responsible mining practices, value addition, community development, and mutually beneficial partnerships within Kenya.
