Larsen & Toubro: Commences Activities for New Tashkent Airport

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has initiated preliminary activities for the New Tashkent International Airport project in Uzbekistan, following the execution of an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract. L&T has received a Limited Notice to Proceed (LNTP) and has begun initial engineering, design, and procurement preparation for the passenger terminal and associated landside infrastructure. This marks a significant step towards developing a major aviation hub in Central Asia.

L&T Begins Work on New Tashkent Airport Project

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has officially commenced initial activities for the development of the New Tashkent International Airport (Ultra-mega*) project in Uzbekistan. The Public Spaces, Airports & Health (PAH) business vertical of L&T secured a Limited Notice to Proceed (LNTP) from the project’s PPP consortium, following the earlier award of an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract.

Scope of Initial Activities

With the issuance of the LNTP, L&T has begun its pre-construction phase. This includes detailed engineering, design work, planning, procurement preparation, and other related activities crucial for the project’s foundational stages. The company anticipates the full Notice to Proceed (NTP) for the entire project scope upon the consortium fulfilling agreed-upon contractual conditions precedent, after which site construction will commence.

Project Significance and Capacity

The scope of L&T’s work encompasses the construction of a passenger terminal and associated landside facilities designed to handle approximately 17 million passengers annually. Key elements include site grading, road infrastructure, structural works, architectural finishes, MEP services, utilities, and the installation of advanced airport systems. The New Tashkent International Airport is envisioned as a landmark greenfield development aimed at transforming Uzbekistan into a major aviation hub connecting East, West, North, and South, and is poised to become one of Central Asia’s largest aviation gateways.

Strategic Importance

Mr. Sthaladipti Saha, Senior Vice President & Head – Buildings Infrastructure at Larsen & Toubro, highlighted the project’s significance, stating, “The execution of this project marks a significant milestone in L&T’s global infrastructure EPC portfolio. The New Tashkent International Airport is a strategically important project that will play a pivotal role in enhancing regional connectivity and supporting Uzbekistan’s ambition of emerging as a leading aviation hub.” He added that L&T is committed to delivering a world-class airport that meets high standards of quality, safety, and sustainability.

This undertaking further solidifies L&T’s leadership in the airport infrastructure sector, showcasing its capability to execute large and complex EPC projects globally. The company’s PAH business vertical has a proven track record in delivering airport projects, public spaces, and healthcare facilities internationally.
