The acquisition was completed on September 23, 2026, after POWERGRID emerged as the successful bidder in a tariff-based competitive bidding process. This strategic move is aimed at establishing a critical Inter-State Transmission system for the evacuation of power from the Rajasthan REZ Ph-IV project.
Project Details and Scope
The acquired project involves the establishment of 6000 MW, ±800 kV HVDC terminals at Barmer-II (Rajasthan) and South Kalamb (Maharashtra), along with the augmentation of the South Kalamb substation. Further, the project entails the construction of a ±800 kV HVDC bipole line stretching approximately 1000 km, traversing Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. Additionally, 400 kV transmission lines and associated bays, as well as two SynCon units at Barmer-II PS, will be installed.
Acquisition Terms and Rationale
The total consideration for the acquisition is approximately ₹18.98 Crore, which includes 50,000 equity shares at par (₹10 each) and the assets and liabilities of Barmer HVDC Power Transmission Limited as of the acquisition date. The acquisition price is subject to adjustment based on the audited accounts of the company. Barmer HVDC Power Transmission Limited is engaged in the business of power transmission, aligning directly with POWERGRID’s core operations. The entity was incorporated on September 30, 2025, and is yet to commence commercial operations.
