Hikal Enters Commercial-Scale Personal Care Manufacturing

Hikal Limited, a global partner in Pharmaceuticals, Crop Protection, and Animal Health, has officially announced the successful commercial production of its Personal Care products. This achievement follows the commissioning of its new cGMP-compliant, multipurpose manufacturing facility dedicated to this business segment at its Panoli, Gujarat site. The milestone signifies Hikal’s formal entry into the commercial-scale supply chain for the global beauty and personal care industry.

Strategic Diversification and Growth Platform

This initiative represents a significant step in Hikal’s strategy to build new, high-value growth platforms. The company has repurposed an existing manufacturing asset at Panoli to cater to the evolving demands of the beauty and personal care sector, leveraging its decades of expertise in process chemistry and regulatory manufacturing. The facility has successfully manufactured its first production batches, with product samples receiving encouraging feedback from customers, indicating a positive market reception.

Focus on Skincare and Advanced UV Filters

Hikal’s initial focus within the Personal Care segment is on the Beauty & Personal Care category, particularly skincare, which is experiencing robust global demand. The company has developed a strong portfolio of second-generation UV filters designed for enhanced performance and alignment with evolving consumer preferences and stringent regulatory standards. These products are currently undergoing approvals from global customers, aligning with Hikal’s strategy of diversifying its offerings beyond its core business segments.

Leadership Perspective on New Venture

Sameer Hiremath, Vice Chairman & Managing Director of Hikal Limited, commented, “Personal Care represents the kind of long-term opportunity we look for. We’ve applied the same disciplined approach that built our Pharmaceuticals and Crop Protection businesses, deep customer partnerships, rigorous quality systems and patient capital investment, to a new category where global demand for specialty skincare ingredients is accelerating.” He further added that the commissioning of the Panoli facility and securing positive customer feedback points towards significant future growth.

Broader Capability Enhancement

This development is part of Hikal’s ongoing efforts to enhance its capabilities across its platform. Recently, the company also commissioned a new cGMP pilot plant at its Pune Research & Technology campus to bolster pharmaceutical process development and scale-up capabilities, supporting its Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) business. This expansion in personal care production capabilities complements Hikal’s strategic vision for comprehensive growth.
