NMDC Steel: Reports Profitability in FY26 with Revenue Up 60%

NMDC Steel Limited has reported a significant financial turnaround in FY 2025-26, achieving profitability and a 60% increase in revenue to ₹13,641.81 crore. The company also saw a substantial ramp-up in production, with Hot Rolled Coil production increasing to 23.25 lakh tonnes. This performance marks an important inflection point for the company, moving from stabilization towards sustained commercial operations.

NMDC Steel Achieves Profitability in FY 2025-26

NMDC Steel Limited has announced a pivotal year of financial progress in FY 2025-26, marked by a significant increase in revenue from operations by nearly 60%, reaching ₹13,641.81 crore compared to ₹8,503.05 crore in FY 2024-25. The total income for the year stood at ₹13,727.81 crore.

Key Financial Highlights

The company’s operational performance saw a notable improvement, with EBITDA turning positive at ₹1,604.44 crore, a stark contrast to the negative EBITDA of ₹1,716.89 crore in the previous year. Furthermore, NMDC Steel reported a Profit After Tax (PAT) of ₹58.72 crore, compared to a net loss of ₹2,373.78 crore in FY 2024-25. This achievement represents a significant milestone in the company’s journey towards building a financially sustainable and competitive steel business.

Operational Achievements

The improvement in financial performance was supported by substantial growth in production and sales. Hot Rolled Coil production increased to 23.25 lakh tonnes from 14.39 lakh tonnes in the previous year. Liquid steel production reached 24.25 lakh tonnes, while hot metal production stood at 30.71 lakh tonnes. HR Coil sales were valued at ₹11,608.58 crore.

Focus on Operational Efficiency

Alongside higher volumes, the company maintained a sharp focus on operational efficiency. Specific energy consumption declined from 6.99 Gcal per tonne of crude steel to 6.21 Gcal per tonne, representing an improvement of around 11% within two years of stabilised operations. This progress is attributed to stronger process discipline and improved performance across its coke ovens, sinter plant, and blast furnace operations.

Building Operational Excellence

NMDC Steel also achieved an important quality milestone by becoming the first integrated steel plant in India to hold concurrent certifications under ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 50001. Additionally, the company received CE certification, enabling it to enter European markets.

Digital Transformation

Digitalization has been a key enabler of the company’s operational transformation, with all core SAP modules covering production, maintenance, materials, finance, and human resources now implemented and operating in real-time. The Level-2 automation system, supported by live dashboards, enhances production visibility and aids faster decision-making.
