The Real-Time Market (RTM) also saw a record monthly volume of 5.56 BU, up 10.6% YoY. Day-Ahead Market volumes rose 15.0% YoY. Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) traded 2.91 lakh, though volumes declined 86.6% YoY.
IEX Achieves Record August Traded Volume
Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) has announced a record-breaking month for electricity trading, with August 2026 volumes reaching 13,938 Million Units (MUs). This represents a significant year-on-year increase of 20.2%, highlighting robust activity in India’s power market. The exchange also reported a substantial monthly volume of 5.56 BU in the Real-Time Market (RTM), an increase of 10.6% compared to August 2025.
Key Market Performance Highlights
The Day-Ahead Market (DAM) demonstrated strong performance, trading 5,517 MU in August 2026, up 15.0% YoY from 4,797 MU in August 2025. The Term-Ahead Market (TAM) saw a significant surge, with volumes increasing by 111.3% YoY to 1,765 MU in August 2026. The IEX Green Market, encompassing Green Day-Ahead and Green Term-Ahead segments, recorded a volume of 1,091 MU, an increase of 17.3% YoY.
Renewable Energy Certificates Market
In the Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) Market, 2.91 lakh RECs were traded in August 2026. However, this marks a decline of 86.6% year-on-year, attributed to lower participation. Trading sessions were held on August 12th and 27th, with clearing prices of Rs 370/REC and Rs 350/REC, respectively. The next REC trading sessions are scheduled for September 9th and 30th, 2026.
Market Clearing Prices
Government data indicates India’s energy consumption rose 12.85% YoY in August 2026. This demand fueled buy bids in the Day-Ahead Market, leading to a price increase. The average market clearing price in the DAM was Rs 4.88/unit, a 22% increase YoY. Similarly, the average market clearing price in the Real-Time Market was Rs 4.41/unit, up 30.4% YoY.
