Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE) has signed two significant Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). One is with DNV (Det Norske Veritas) to enhance expertise in warship design and marine engineering, and the other is with Damen Technical Cooperation B.V. to explore the design and construction of advanced dredgers. These collaborations are expected to strengthen GRSE’s capabilities and global competitiveness.
Strategic Partnerships for Enhanced Capabilities
Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE), a Navratna Defence Public Sector Undertaking, announced today the signing of two important Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). These agreements are set to significantly bolster GRSE’s expertise and operational scope in the maritime and defence shipbuilding sectors.
Collaboration with DNV
The first MoU is with DNV (Det Norske Veritas), a globally recognized maritime organization. This partnership aims to establish enhanced expertise in warship design, shipbuilding, and marine engineering. DNV’s global capabilities in classification, certification, technical assurance, digitalization, sustainability, and maritime advisory services will be leveraged to strengthen GRSE’s offerings. The collaboration will focus on key areas including advanced warships, specialized vessels, green shipping, sustainable technologies, digital shipbuilding, AI, Industry 4.0, and skill development.
Partnership with Damen Technical Cooperation B.V.
The second MoU is with Damen Technical Cooperation B.V., Netherlands. This collaboration focuses on establishing a technical and business framework to explore the design and construction of advanced dredgers for Indian customers. The MoU synergizes GRSE’s shipbuilding prowess with Damen’s proven expertise in Trailing Suction Hopper Dredgers (TSHD) and Water Injection Dredgers (WID). Key areas of cooperation include advanced dredger design and technology, technical know-how transfer, joint design and construction proposals, development of indigenous dredger-building capabilities, and long-term cooperation for future dredging requirements. This partnership builds upon existing collaboration, including a 1,000 m³ dredger currently under construction for the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA).

GRSE anticipates that these partnerships will further strengthen its capabilities in digitalization, green technologies, and advanced shipbuilding practices. The company aims to contribute to India’s ability to undertake technologically sophisticated defence and commercial shipbuilding projects, fostering a stronger and more self-reliant Indian maritime and defence ecosystem.
