POWERGRID: Wins Rajasthan REZ Transmission Project for ₹3,244 Crore

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has been declared the successful bidder for the “Transmission system for evacuation of power from Rajasthan REZ Ph-IV (Part-5: 6 GW) [Barmer Complex] Barmer-II: 6 GW (Solar)” project. The project will be established on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis, with quoted annual transmission charges of Rs. 3,244.33 Crore. The Letter of Intent (Lol) was received on September 2, 2026.

New Transmission Project Secured

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has successfully secured a new inter-state transmission system project. The company was declared the successful bidder through the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process. This marks a significant expansion for POWERGRID in developing critical power evacuation infrastructure.

Project Details and Financials

The project, named “Transmission system for evacuation of power from Rajasthan REZ Ph-IV (Part-5: 6 GW) [Barmer Complex] Barmer-II: 6 GW (Solar) (LCC Configuration)”, will be undertaken on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis. The quoted annual transmission charges for this project amount to Rs. 3,244.33 Crore. POWERGRID received the official Letter of Intent (Lol) for this venture on September 2, 2026.

Scope of Infrastructure Development

The project entails the establishment of 6000 MW capacity through ± 800 kV HVDC terminals located at Barmer-II (Rajasthan) and South Kalamb S/s (Maharashtra). It also includes the augmentation of the South Kalamb S/s. Furthermore, the development includes a ± 800 kV HVDC bipole line connecting Barmer-II and South Kalamb, spanning approximately 1000 km across Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. The project also involves the construction of 400kV transmission lines and associated bays, along with the installation of two SynCon units at Barmer-II PS.
