United Breweries: Commissions ₹110 Crore Canning Line in Maharashtra

United Breweries Limited (UBL) has commissioned a new canning line at its Ellora Brewery in Maharashtra, backed by an investment of ₹110 crore. This expansion aims to enhance manufacturing productivity, strengthen its presence in the crucial Maharashtra market, and meet the growing consumer demand for canned beverages. The new facility boasts a capacity of 40,000 cans per hour and will produce key brands like Kingfisher.

Enhanced Production Capacity in Maharashtra

United Breweries Limited (UBL), India’s largest beer manufacturer and part of the HEINEKEN Company, announced today the commissioning of a new canning line at its Ellora Brewery. Located in the Waluj MIDC area of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, this significant expansion is supported by an investment of ₹110 crore. The new facility is set to become operational in September 2026, pending statutory approvals.

Boosting Productivity and Market Reach

The Ellora Brewery’s new canning line is designed to be one of the fastest in UBL’s network, with a substantial capacity of 40,000 cans per hour. This addition complements the brewery’s existing bottling infrastructure, offering enhanced packaging flexibility. This move is expected to bolster UBL’s manufacturing footprint, improve overall brewery productivity, and enable the company to more effectively respond to the increasing consumer preference for canned beer in one of India’s most important beverage markets.

Strategic Investment for Growth

Vivek Gupta, MD & CEO of United Breweries Limited, highlighted the strategic importance of Maharashtra as a key market with significant growth potential for category expansion and premiumization. “Consumers are increasingly choosing cans for their convenience and premium drinking experience,” Gupta stated. The new canning line at Ellora will strengthen UBL’s ability to cater to these evolving consumer needs, optimize brewery infrastructure utilization, and enhance productivity. This investment follows the commissioning of a similar line at UBL’s Nizam Brewery in Telangana in July 2026, underscoring the company’s commitment to expanding its manufacturing capabilities across India.

Product Portfolio and Future Outlook

The Ellora facility will initially produce cans for popular brands including Kingfisher Strong, Kingfisher Premium, Bullet Strong, and London Pilsner, catering to the growing demand in Maharashtra. The enhanced canning capability will also provide greater flexibility in optimizing packaging formats across UBL’s portfolio as market demand shifts, supporting the company’s ongoing premiumization strategy. The investment further reinforces UBL’s dedication to strengthening its local manufacturing footprint and contributing to the future of the beer industry in India.
