Coal India: August Production Up 5.7%, Off-take Rises 6.7%

Coal India Limited (CIL) has released its provisional production and off-take performance for August 2026. The company reported a 5.7% increase in coal production compared to the same period last year, reaching 47.5 million tonnes. Total off-take also saw a positive trend, rising by 5.5% to 60.6 million tonnes. This data provides insight into the operational performance of CIL and its subsidiary companies for the specified period.

Coal India Reports August Operational Performance

Coal India Limited (CIL) has announced its provisional production and off-take figures for the month of August 2026. The company, along with its subsidiary companies, demonstrated a positive performance in coal production, which saw a notable increase. For August 2026, CIL recorded a total coal production of 47.5 million tonnes, marking a 5.7% growth compared to the 50.4 million tonnes produced in August 2025.

Off-take Performance Shows Growth

In tandem with production, the total off-take of coal also registered an increase. CIL’s off-take for August 2026 stood at 60.6 million tonnes, which is a 5.5% rise from the 57.4 million tonnes recorded in the corresponding period of the previous year. This performance aligns with the company’s operational objectives and market demand.

Cumulative Figures for FY27

The report also includes cumulative figures for the period April 2026 to August 2026. During this period, coal production reached 267.5 million tonnes, while the off-take amounted to 322.9 million tonnes. These figures represent a slight decrease of 4.5% in production and an increase of 6.7% in off-take compared to the same cumulative period last year.

Subsidiary Performance Highlights

The annexure details the performance of individual subsidiaries. For August 2026, Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) saw a significant production jump of 39.5%. Other subsidiaries like Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) and Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) also reported production growth of 19.5% and 24.7% respectively. In terms of off-take, ECL showed a strong increase of 45.3% in August 2026.
