Ola Electric Unveils S1Z Scooter, Opens Bookings
Ola Electric announced today, August 29, 2026, the commencement of bookings for its latest scooter model, the S1Z. This new offering is positioned as the company’s most accessible scooter range to date, with prices starting at an attractive ₹79,999. The launch is being hailed as a landmark moment for the Indian EV industry.
Indigenous Technology and Manufacturing
A key highlight of the S1Z is its integration of Ola’s indigenous Bharat Cell LFP technology. This battery technology was developed at the company’s Battery Innovation Centre and is manufactured at its Gigafactory in Tamil Nadu. Ola Electric has secured 426 patents related to this technology, underscoring its in-house development capabilities. The company believes this LFP cell technology will be instrumental in addressing the largest segment of the EV market.
Focus on Cost Reduction and Performance
By manufacturing its own LFP cells, Ola Electric aims to structurally reduce the battery cost, which is a significant component of an EV’s overall price. This strategic move is expected to deliver enhanced safety, longer-lasting battery performance, strong range, and the full MoveOS 5 experience, with the S1Z offering an impressive range of up to 301 kms (IDC). This ‘cell-to-vehicle’ strategy, a focus of the company’s investments, is now being realized with the S1Z.
Expansion and Growth Strategy
In line with its growth plans, Ola Electric also announced the upcoming launch of its first dealer-operated Ola stores. The S1Z will be the initial product to be rolled out through this new distribution channel. The company emphasized its commitment to the value segment, aiming to provide enhanced safety, range, technology, and overall value for Indian consumers looking to switch to electric mobility. Ola Electric is optimistic that the S1Z will play a crucial role in bringing EVs into every Indian household.
