Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has announced an amendment to its Memorandum of Association, officially incorporating a broad range of digital and virtual payment system services. This strategic expansion includes UPI, e-wallets, and payment gateways, positioning BPCL to actively participate in India’s evolving digital financial landscape and to collaborate with financial institutions.
Strategic Business Expansion
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) is set to broaden its operational scope by officially including a comprehensive suite of digital and virtual payment system services. This significant amendment to the company’s Memorandum of Association was confirmed following the results of voting at the Annual General Meeting. The decision allows BPCL to actively engage in the rapidly growing digital payments sector.
New Scope of Services
The updated object clause authorizes BPCL to undertake a wide array of activities related to electronic and virtual payment systems. This includes the promotion, development, design, management, operation, and distribution of services such as Unified Payments Interface (UPI), Bharat Quick Response (QR) codes, payment aggregation, e-wallets, mobile wallets, and payment gateways. The company can also facilitate pre-paid and post-paid payment instruments, operate open, closed, and semi-closed systems, and engage in Near Field Communication (NFC) payments.
Collaboration and Future Growth
Furthermore, BPCL is empowered to offer payment services both within India and internationally. The amendment also explicitly permits the company to enter into collaborations with banks, financial institutions, and Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs) to support these new business ventures. This strategic move signals BPCL’s intent to diversify its revenue streams and capitalize on opportunities in the digital economy.
