New Mega Project in Kuwait
VA TECH WABAG LIMITED (‘WABAG’) has announced the signing of a major contract for the Doha SWRO Desalination Plant with Recarbonation System – Stage II in Kuwait. This significant ‘Mega’ project represents WABAG’s first venture in Kuwait and further solidifies its strategic presence across the GCC region. The order was initially awarded in June 2026 by the Ministry of Electricity, Water & Renewable Energy, Kuwait, and the formal contract execution now paves the way for the project’s commencement.
Project Details and Technology
The project will be undertaken on a Design, Build, Operate basis by a WABAG-led unincorporated joint venture with Heavy Engineering Industries & Shipbuilding Company K.S.C. (‘HEISCO’). The plant will have a capacity of 60 MIGD (approximately 272 MLD) and will integrate advanced Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (‘SWRO’) technology with a Recarbonation System. Construction is slated to take over 36 months, followed by a five-year Operation & Maintenance period.
Sustainability and Clean Energy Focus
A key feature of this project is the integration of on-site Solar Photovoltaic (‘PV’) systems to meet a portion of the plant’s energy requirements. This initiative directly supports Kuwait’s clean-energy objectives and aims to lower the facility’s overall carbon footprint, reflecting WABAG’s commitment to sustainable solutions.
