Spark Minda: Subsidiary Gets Green Light for Display Module Assembly

Minda Instruments Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Minda Corporation, has received government approval under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) to manufacture Display Module Sub-Assemblies. This move, part of a new government tranche worth ₹7,877 crore, aims to reduce import dependency and strengthen India’s automotive electronics ecosystem. The new greenfield facility will enhance backward integration and cater to both domestic and external markets.

Minda Instruments Secures Key Government Approval

Minda Instruments Limited, a significant subsidiary of Minda Corporation and a part of the Spark Minda Group, has been granted official government approval to manufacture Display Module Sub-Assemblies. This approval falls under the ambit of the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), a government initiative aimed at boosting domestic manufacturing capabilities.

Boosting Backward Integration in Automotive Electronics

The clearance allows Minda Instruments to establish a greenfield facility for TFT display module assembly, marking a crucial step in the company’s backward integration strategy. Previously, the country has largely relied on imports for this component. The new facility will enable Minda Instruments, which already supplies instrument clusters and automotive electronics to major OEMs, to produce these critical display components in-house. This strategic move is expected to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers and shorten supply lines.

Government Support and Industry Impact

This approval is part of a larger government push under the ECMS, which recently cleared 31 new proposals, taking the scheme’s total project count to 106. The August 17 tranche of approvals collectively represents a projected investment of ₹7,877 crore and is anticipated to create approximately 9,588 direct jobs. The cumulative investment approved under ECMS since its inception has reached ₹69,548 crore across 15 states. The company views this as a significant step towards strengthening India’s capabilities in designing and manufacturing advanced automotive electronics.
