Tata Steel Limited has officially announced the divestment of its entire equity stake in Jamshedpur Football and Sporting Private Limited (JFSPL), its wholly-owned subsidiary. The Committee of Directors approved the transfer of 100% equity shares, comprising 4,08,00,000 shares of face value ₹10/- each, to Churchill Brothers Sports Club Private Limited (‘Churchill’). The transaction was completed on August 14, 2026, for a nominal consideration of ₹100.

Transaction Details and Future Focus

A Share Purchase Agreement has been executed between Tata Steel and Churchill, outlining the terms and conditions for the transfer of its shareholding in JFSPL. The completion of this transaction was subject to certain conditions precedent, including necessary approvals from the All-India Football Federation. While Tata Steel is divesting its ownership in JFSPL, it reaffirms its commitment to fostering football at the grassroots and youth level. The company plans to continue its legacy of nurturing young talent, repurposing its sporting infrastructure for broader athlete development and modernizing its youth systems in collaboration with the AIFF.

Financial and Operational Impact

For the financial year ended March 31, 2026, Jamshedpur Football and Sporting Private Limited contributed ₹32.23 crore to Tata Steel’s consolidated turnover, representing approximately 0.01% of the total. The subsidiary’s net-worth as of March 31, 2026, was a negative ₹5.8 crore. The sale is not considered a related party transaction and does not form part of any scheme of arrangement. Churchill Brothers Sports Club, the buyer, is a reputable entity with a long-standing legacy in Indian domestic football, operating the ‘Churchill Brothers FC’ club.
