Coal India Limited (CIL) has entered into a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India Private Limited (AMNS) on August 12, 2026. This strategic alliance is set to explore the potential for utilizing syn-gas produced from a coal gasification facility.
Project Focus and Feasibility
The primary objective of this MoU is to meticulously assess the technical, commercial, and implementation modalities of the proposed project. CIL is considering the establishment of a coal gasification facility, potentially located adjacent to or at the AMNS Paradip Pellet Plant. This initiative will also incorporate Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) technology. The initial phase will concentrate on preparing a Preliminary Feasibility Report (PFR) to evaluate the overall project viability.
