IMFA: Q1 FY27 Profit Hits Record High on Strong Volume Growth

Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys Limited (IMFA) has announced its financial results for the first quarter of FY27, reporting its highest-ever quarterly revenue and profitability. The company achieved a volume of 80,000 tons in Q1 FY27, a significant increase from the previous average. IMFA also provided updates on its expansion projects, KNR-1 and KNR-2, with full furnace operations expected by the fourth quarter, projecting a substantial increase in tonnage.

Record Quarterly Performance

Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys Limited (IMFA) has declared its financial results for the first quarter ended June 30, 2026, marking a significant milestone with its highest-ever quarterly revenue and profitability. This performance is attributed to firm prices and increased tonnage from the KNR-2 acquisition.

Volume Growth and Capacity Expansion

In Q1 FY27, IMFA achieved a production volume of 80,000 tons, an increase from the average quarterly output of approximately 65,000 tons. Looking ahead, the company is poised for further growth with the commissioning of the KNR-1 greenfield project. Full operation of all furnaces is anticipated by the fourth quarter, with a projected increase in total tonnage to approximately 120,000 to 125,000 tons per month, representing a 50% increase.

Operational Updates

The company is undertaking initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and cost optimization, including digital projects and Kaizen initiatives. While there are ongoing efforts to upgrade infrastructure such as transformers and gas cleaning plants, these are expected to be resolved within the next few quarters. IMFA also noted its competitive position on the global cost curve, supported by initiatives like digital projects and Kaizen theory implementation.

Market Outlook and Strategy

IMFA expects a growing Indian ferrochrome demand, driven by the stainless steel sector. The company is confident in its ability to manage domestic supply and maintain competitive pricing, with flexibility to adjust between domestic sales and exports. The company has also indicated its interest in critical minerals, having explored potential blocks.

Future Production Targets

For FY27, IMFA is adjusting its production guidance slightly downwards to around 380,000 tons due to some transformer loading constraints at KNR-2. However, the company is maintaining its production target of 475,000 to 500,000 tons for FY28. The Kalinganagar plant is expected to reach its full benefit from Q4 of the current year.
