Between FY26 and FY30, the company plans to invest ₹450,000 million in manufacturing expansion, electrification, and the development of future mobility solutions, introducing 26 new products and variants by FY30. This strategic investment underscores HMIL’s commitment to advancing sustainable transportation and reinforcing India’s position as a global manufacturing hub.
Carbon Footprint Reduction Initiatives
HMIL is actively pursuing decarbonization across its operations, focusing on reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions. Key initiatives include optimizing fuel usage, transitioning to lower-carbon alternatives, implementing energy conservation measures, and accelerating the adoption of renewable electricity. The company is committed to achieving 100% renewable electricity for its manufacturing operations by 2025, leveraging various renewable energy sources. In FY26, HMIL achieved a significant reduction in its carbon footprint, with total Scope 1 emissions at 29,670.21 tCO2e and Scope 2 emissions at 56,049.53 tCO2e.
Energy Efficiency and Renewables
The company has implemented various energy-saving projects, resulting in notable reductions in energy consumption and operating costs. In Chennai, 34 energy-saving projects were implemented, leading to a 4% reduction in energy consumption compared to FY25 and achieving 5.342 million kWh of electricity savings. HMIL continues to strengthen its renewable energy portfolio, installing a 10 MW rooftop solar power plant and procuring IREC certificates. These efforts contribute to HMIL’s RE100 commitment, offsetting Scope 2 emissions.
Environmental Stewardship and Waste Management
HMIL emphasizes environmental stewardship throughout its value chain. The company adheres to strict environmental regulations for waste management and effluent treatment, implementing advanced technologies for water recycling and reuse. Its plant in Chennai operates as a Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) facility. Waste management practices prioritize reuse and recycling, with initiatives to reduce hazardous chemical usage and monitor volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.
CSR and Community Engagement
As a responsible corporate citizen, HMIL continues to invest in CSR initiatives. In FY26, the company invested ₹896.8 million towards CSR activities, impacting over 2.5 million lives across India. These efforts are focused on environment, healthcare, and skill development, aiming to address critical societal needs and foster inclusive growth.
