GAIL India Pipeline Leakage at RCF Trombay Premises

GAIL India reported a gas leakage incident on November 16, 2025, at its 18-inch pipeline passing through Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers (RCF), Trombay premises. The leakage, caused by a third-party damage incident, was promptly addressed. GAIL’s O&M team isolated and depressurized the pipeline, initiating repair work. Gas supply to MGL Wadala CGS has been normalized as of November 18, 2025.

Gas Leakage Incident

On November 16, 2025, a gas leakage was reported on GAIL India’s 18″ pipeline, which supplies gas from ONGCL Trombay to Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL), Wadala. The incident occurred at approximately 11:00 Hrs inside the Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers (RCF), Trombay premises, at Chainage 7.0 km.

Incident Response and Repair

Upon receiving information about the leakage, GAIL’s O&M team from Mumbai was immediately dispatched to the incident site. It was determined that the leakage was caused by third-party damage during work being conducted by a contract agency inside RCF premises without prior notification to GAIL. The damage location was near the warning markers for the GAIL pipeline.

Following the assessment, the pipeline was isolated and depressurization commenced. The repair strategy involved cutting and replacing the damaged pipeline section. Repair activities started on November 16, 2025, at 17:00 Hrs and were completed by 11:50 Hrs on November 18, 2025. Gas-in operations commenced at 13:20 Hrs on the same day.

Current Status

As of November 18, 2025, gas supply to MGL Wadala CGS has been normalized. GAIL India has also intimated all stakeholders, including PNGRB, OISD and MOPNG, regarding the incident.
